It’s time for another USWNT roster drop! At the end of this month they’ll be taking on the Republic of Ireland and on July 2nd they’ll play Canada. Let’s take a look at the group.

Goalkeepers: Angelina Anderson, Claudia Dickey, Mandy McGlynn

Defenders: Kerry Abello, Jordyn Bugg, Naomi Girma, Lilly Reale, Tara McKeown, Avery Patterson, Izzy Rodriguez, Emily Sams, Emily Sonnett, Gisele Thompson

Midfielders: Croix Bethune, Sam Coffey, Claire Hutton\, Rose Lavelle, Sam Meza, Olivia Moultrie

Forwards: Lynn Biyendolo, Michelle Cooper, Yazmeen Ryan, Emma Sears, Ally Sentnor, Alyssa Thompson

In an interview with ESPN’s Jeff Kassouf, a couple of weeks ago, Hayes stated that she wanted to give the USWNT players at clubs in Europe a break. Due to schedule congestion, she felt like it could possibly be one of the only substantial breaks those players get before the 2027 World Cup. The only player called in from a European club is Naomi Girma, likely due to having missed a sizable chunk of the season due to injury.

Since the European club players won’t be in camp, there will be ample opportunity for players in the midfield and defense, in particular, to really make their mark.

The 25 player roster includes four first-time call ups in Jordyn Bugg, Lilly Reale, Sam Meza, and Izzy Rodriguez. The first three of this group were all called into the most recent U23 camp.

We could potentially see a game for each keeper in this window. That might be a little too wild and crazy though. If nothing else, I am guessing that both McGlynn and Dickey will feature. I think that Angel City’s young #1 goalkeeper being called in while Phallon Tullis-Joyce takes a break indicates that Emma Hayes has moved on from all of the Vlatko Era keepers, Casey Murphy, Aubrey Kingsbury, and Jane Campbell.

Outside back depth at the USWNT level has certainly been a big question. Behind Emily Fox on the right and Crystal Dunn on the left, who’s the next one up? These friendlies will be an opportunity for players like Gisele Thompson, Avery Patterson, Kerry Abello, and Izzy Rodriguez to really stake their claim on one of these spots. Reale is an interesting one as she has been playing on the left for Gotham this season, but also has experience as a center back. We’ll also get another opportunity to see who else gets time next to Naomi Girma.

Croix Bethune and Rose Lavelle make their return to the USWNT after missing the past few camps due to injury. With no Lindsay Heaps, Catarina Macario, or Lily Yohannes this will give someone else the chance to step into the attacking midfield role. I was a little bit bummed to see that Hal Hershfelt was left off of this roster. I’m not sure if that’s still due to her working back from injury or if she’s shifted out to being more on the bubble.

The group of forwards has no major changes. Yazmeen Ryan returns to the fold after coming back from injury but this group of six are players that have already been building their minutes and chemistry together. Jaedyn Shaw remains, likely, within the U23 group due to her not playing much for the North Carolina Courage this season. Probably one of the most disappointing storylines of the 2025 season. I hope that eventually she’ll find her form and hit her stride again.

Shake ups in the midfield and backline will likely mean we’ll be in for some bumps in the road this international window, but I think that Hayes made a smart move. Provide the players in Europe a true rest while taking the time to give newer or depth players a chance to take on a bigger role. It should be spicy!
